Summit Common Council Approves New Member

Lisa Allen was appointed last week to fill the Ward 2 seat left open by a departing member.

SUMMIT, NJ — At its meeting last Wednesday, the Summit Common Council voted unanimously to approve the appointment of Lisa Allen as Ward 2 Common Council member. Allen replaces Stephen Bowman, who resigned earlier this month as he and his family will move out of state. (Read more: Summit Council To Discuss Filling Seat Of Departing Member)

Allen will be up for re-election to the seat in November.

According to the city, Allen began her early career at JPMorgan Chase as a Human Resources Business Partner. Since moving to Summit in 2011, Lisa has volunteered on the Franklin Elementary PTO board, as co-leader of Cub Scout Troop 360, on the Board of Trustees for the Summit Parkline Foundation and International Forum of Visual Practitioners Institute, and is the current co-President of the Summit High School PTO.

Allen is currently employed as District 21 Legislative Liaison to Assemblywoman Nancy Muñoz.

She is a 2019 graduate of Montclair State University with a Masters of Arts in Public and Organizational Relations.

Allen currently sits on the Board of Trustees for HTTV and has been actively involved in hosting community-based programming since 2014.

Council President Marjorie Fox wrote in a preview of the meeting last week, "Following the procedure for filling a vacancy, the Republican party has provided a list of three candidates from which the council must select the new councilmember to serve in this position until the General Election in November."

The Summit Common Council consists of seven members. Each of the two wards has three representatives, and one member serves "at large." The ward seats carry three-year terms; the at-large seat is two years.
