Summit Mayor And Council To Be Sworn In For New Terms Jan. 2

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit Mayor Nora G. Radest will be sworn in for her second term at the Common Council meeting the night of Thursday, Jan. 2, at 7:30. Several council members will also be sworn in.

Radest, a Democrat, was first elected to the spot in 2015. She moved to Summit in 1989 and served on the school board from 1997 to 2002.

After her own swearing in, Radest will swear in three council members: Danny O'Sullivan as council member in the 1st Ward, Steve Bowman for his second term serving the 2nd Ward, and Beth Little in her second term as a councilmember-at-large, representing the 1st and 2nd wards.

Then the council will choose its president and a president pro tempore, who can also serve in the absence of the council president and in the absence of Mayor Radest.

Also at the meeting, 2019 Council President David Naidu will present the symbolic council chair to late Councilmember Matthew Gould, who died unexpectedly in August of a heart condition at age 48, and to retired council member Stephanie Gould.

Naidu will also present the symbolic council chair to retiring member Mike McTernan.

Regular council meetings will be held in the Council Chamber, 512 Springfield Ave. at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, Jan. 21, Feb. 4, Feb. 19, March 10, and March 24, if a proposed schedule is approved at the Jan. 2 meeting.
