Two First Responders Injured In Summit House Fire

SUMMIT, NJ - Two first responders are recovering from minor injuries after battling a fire on Morris Avenue on Monday, according to officials.

The Summit Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire 59 Morris Ave. shortly after 9:30 a.m. Responders found the home with heavy smoke coming from it on arrival and initially discovered fire on the first floor, officials said.

After assessing the situation, the firefighter crews determined the blaze had spread to the second floor. The fire was declared under control at 10:51 a.m.

There were two minor reported injuries to a responding Union County police officer and Summit firefighter and both were transported to Overlook Hospital, officials said. No residents in the
home were injured.

The Summit Police Department and Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad assisted at the scene along with Union County Mutual Aid.

The fire is being investigated by the Summit Fire Department Investigation Unit.
