Bodies Of Elderly Couple Found In Teaneck Fire Debris: Report

Gerald and Rosanne Ryan, both 81, could not get out of the Sherman Avenue house after a fire broke out there just after 6:30 a.m.

TEANECK, NJ — The bodies of Gerald and Rosanne Ryan were found in the debris of theor township home after a fire ripped through it early Sunday morning.

Rosanne and Gerald Ryan, both 81, were killed when their 2-and-a-half-story Sherman Avenue home at about 6:30 a.m., The Daily Voice reported.

Two police officers tried rescuing the Ryans before evacuating neighbors from their homes, according to the report.

Part of the house apparently collapsed and a house next door that the fire spread to was deemed uninhabitable, NorthJersey.com reported.

A neighbor said in the NorthJersey.com report that he thought he heard an explosion come from the Ryan's home.

Roseanne Ryan suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and uses oxygen tanks, neighbors said in the NorthJersey.com report.

Two police officers were treated for smoke inhalation, according to the report.
