In her quiet family home, an unhappy young woman calmly reveals to her mother her shocking plans for the future. The simple, inexorable progression of this quiet tragedy is the structure of Marsha Norman’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play ‘night Mother, which opens at the Garage Theatre on February 9. The production of what Newsweek called “domesticated apocalypse” will run Thursdays through Sundays at the Becton Theatre on the Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University, 960 River Road in Teaneck.
A devastating and thought-provoking play, ‘night Mother represents the kind of theater for which Garage (now in its 18th season) has become known. A compact, razor-sharp play that takes place in the space of a single evening, ‘night Mother proceeds with what the New Republic described as “the force of a juggernaut.” It’s virtually impossible to sit through the play’s 90 minutes unchanged.
