Video screening

A screening of the video "Why I Am Here," will take place at the Leonia Public Library on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at 7:00 p.m.  Funded in part by the Teaneck-based Puffin Foundation Ltd., the video tells the story of a migrant worker from our area.  In bold graphic detail it describes his family's traumas during the long U.S.-supported Guatemalan Civil War, during which thousands of Mayans, including the subject's family members, were slaughtered. The video also shows how U.S. trade policies such as the Central American Free Trade Agreement decimated the Guatemalan corn-based economy and forced many people to leave their beloved homeland to try to survive and help their families.  Both the videographer and the subject of the film will be present.  Produced by the Community of Friends in Action, Inc., and Grupo Ellatu.

Free and open to the public.  Refreshments.
