'Magic Mushrooms' Spur Teaneck Man To Shoot His Ceiling: Cops
Shariyf Salahuddeen was arrested in an "altered" state outside the Red Road apartment cops found riddled with bullet holes, cops said
TEANECK, NJ — A Teaneck man, possibly on magic mushrooms, shot up his own apartment then tried to grab the gun of an officer who'd taken him to the hospital, authorities announced Monday.
Shariyf Salahuddeen, 30, was arrested after police coaxed the "altered" man out of his bullet hole-riddled apartment at 805 Red Road, near Cedar Lane, about 6:15 a.m. Sunday, Teaneck police Deputy Chief Andrew McGurr said.
"Thankfully, none of the rounds struck anyone and there were no injuries reported during this incident," McGurr said in a statement.

"It is believed that Mr. Salahuddeen may have ingested psychedelic mushrooms."
Salahuddeen was taken to New Bridge Medical Center where he tried, unsuccessfully, to grab a gun from an officer's holster, officials said.

Officers had been summoned to the Red Road building by a neighbor who believed someone had just shot through his ceiling and by Salahuddeen's wife, who called from outside Teaneck to request a wellness check, police said.
Inside the apartment, police found an AK-47-style rifle, a 9-millimeter handgun, a .22 caliber pistol, and a high-capacity magazine loaded with 9-millimeter live rounds, police said.
Salahuddeen was arrested on charges of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a large-capacity magazine and endangering another person, said police.
Additional charges may be forthcoming, police said.
A judge granted a temporary extreme risk protection order that prohibits Salahuddeen from possessing or purchasing a firearm or ammunition, and from holding a firearms purchaser identification card, permit to purchase a handgun, and permit to carry a handgun, police said.
Once medically cleared, Salahuddeen will be remanded to the Bergen County Jail and be arraigned in Bergen County Superior Court, officials said.
