Man Arrested After Firing Gun During Teaneck Dispute: Police

A Hackensack man was arrested after Teaneck police say he fired his weapon, but shot no one, during a domestic violence incident last week.

TEANECK, NJ — A Hackensack man was arrested after police say he fired a gun during a domestic dispute in Teaneck while a 12-year-old was present.

Police say they received information about a domestic violence dispute involving multiple shots fired during the early morning hours of Sept. 17.

An investigation determined that an argument between Fredrick D. Mitchell III and a victim, who was not identified by police, turned violent Thursday morning.

The victim was struck multiple times in the head and face, causing multiple lacerations. As the argument continued Mitchell pulled a gun and fired approximately eight shots in the house while the victim's 12-year-old child was present.

Both the child and victim fled the house at different points of the argument, police said, and no one was shot.

Mitchell was arrested Friday in Hackensack and charged with weapons offenses, endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated assault.

He was lodged in Bergen County jail, the department said Tuesday.
