6 People Charged In Teaneck Shooting, Murder Conspiracy Plot
Incident stemmed from Twitter messages being sent back and forth, police said.
TEANECK, N.J. — Five adults were charged with conspiracy to commit murder stemming from a shooting that occurred in the township in January, said police Chief Robert A. Carney. A juvenile was also charged in the case.
Police found a vehicle struck by bullets and a shattered window at about 8 p.m. on Hill Street Jan. 4. Witnesses said they heard four or five shots fired, saw four people crouched down behind the damaged vehicle, and observed two vehicles speed away from the area, Carney said.
The shooting stemmed from a dispute between two groups of people who were sending Twitter messages back and forth, the chief said.

Teaneck police detectives and officers from the Ridgewood Park Police Department identified the people involved in the dispute; cell phones were seized from suspects police identified in the case, authorities said.
With the help of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, a search of the phones revealed “incriminating evidence” relating to the shooting, Carney said.

As a result of the investigation, Fady Nazir, Erick Green, Manual Habashee, Harold Mercado, and Sebastian Flores were each charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
Green, Mercado, and Flores were also charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. Nazir was also charged with luring an adult.
A sixth person, who was a juvenile at the time the shooting occurred, was charged with offenses that, if committed by an adult, would constitute conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit robbery, Carney said.
Nazir was arrested at his residence Wednesday. His bail was set at $300,000 and he is lodged in the Bergen County Jail.
Mercado was arrested as he left his Fort Lee residence Thursday. He was lodged in the Bergen County Jail on $325,000 bail.
Habashee turned himself in at the Teaneck Police Department and is lodged at the Bergen County Jail on $250,000 bail.
Green and Flores are lodged at the Bergen County Jail on an unrelated matter. They were processed and served while detainers were delivered to the jail, police said.
All the adult defendants are scheduled for initial appearances in Central Judicial Processing Court, authorities said.
The juvenile was served with a complaint and will appear in Juvenile Court at a future date.
