A woman had contacted 911 to report that an unknown man had followed her vehicle from Six Flags Great Adventure to the ShopRite parking lot after she had taken several random turns, police said.
Instead of going home, the woman went to the parking lot to meet a family member she had contacted. At that time, the unknown man parked his vehicle to block hers in a parking space. He then attempted to enter her vehicle, police said.

The man attempted to enter by pulling on the door handles and then identified himself as a federal agent, police said.
Officers arrived on scene and located the male suspect in a 2018 Nissan, police said. As they tried to identify him, the man provided a driver’s license along with a Great Adventure coupon and a handicapped placard. He claimed these were his law enforcement credentials.
The man eventually had the windows of his vehicle rolled up, and refused to exit the car or cooperate with the officers. As patrol vehicles attempted to prevent the suspect from leaving the scene, he abruptly backed his vehicle away and fled, disregarding an officer’s orders to stop, police said.
A pursuit was initiated as the suspect's vehicle recklessly drove across the parking lot, over curbs and grass onto Cook Road and then headed out onto North County Line Road where he reached speeds in excess of 80 mph, police said.
As the vehicles neared Jackson Mills Road, the pursuit was stopped by police.
A short time later, the suspect's vehicle was seen parked on the shoulder of the road near Firenze Road. Officers arrived on scene and, after a struggle, were able to place the 59-year-old male driver under arrest, police said.
The male was then transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation. He was later released, processed and lodged in the Ocean County Jail after being charged with: eluding, impersonating a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, obstruction, harassment, speeding, reckless driving, careless driving and multiple other motor vehicle violations., police said.
