OCAG Presents: The Thomas A. Edison Film Festival

The highly anticipated film festival comes to the Ocean County Artists Guild this July.

This widely appreciated film festival began in 1981 with the endorsement of the Thomas Edison National Historical Park when Artists Guild trustee, John Columbus first proposed his idea. Now, current festival director, Jane Steuerwald and Columbus are collaborating to present a program of exceptional new short films, curated specifically for this special event at the Ocean County Artists Guild premiering Saturday, July 16, 2022.

The Thomas A. Edison Film Festival’s purpose has always been to exhibit works which magnify the art of the motion picture-- which Edison created over 100 years ago.

The festival kicked off this year’s season at Princeton University and the Ocean County Artists Guild is delighted to offer this unique event so close to home. The festival has for 41 years presented exciting animation, experimental, documentary, narrative, and dance shorts.

A sampler list of films showing on July 16 follow:

"A Parisian Circus" is a documentary by Hugo Besson explores the routines, thoughts, and artistry of gifted circus performers who found a way to practice their craft throughout the Covid-19 dilemma.

"Alone beneath the Northern Lights" is a documentary by Valentin Boitel-Denyset. The filmmaker lived for two months in a cottage in the wilds of Norway, spending a winter 400 kilometers beyond the Arctic Circle.

"Digital Afterlives" is a short film by Richard James Allen and Karen Pearlman. A man in white dances to the strains of Franz Liszt’s “Totentanz.” His gestures are repeated in multi angled tapestry. It’s a wild procession of dopplegångers who crisscross the screen to create a geometric and captivating kinetic presentation.

"My Brother is Deaf" is a documentary by Peter Hoffman Kimball, Bethesda, MD. A heartwarming and personal film told from the point of view of a boy whose younger brother is deaf. When the family learns that their young son is deaf, they do their best to comprehend what it means to live and cope with hearing loss.

This exclusive Ocean County Artists Guild event begins Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 6 PM, with doors opening at 5:45 PM.

A $10 admission fee will help defray costs.
