Storm Knocks Out Power To 5,700 Homes In Ocean County: JCP&L

Wind gusts of more than 30 mph were recorded as the storm moved through Ocean, according to Rutgers climate measurements.

The strong storm that moved through New Jersey on Sunday brought down power lines, knocking out electricity to more than 5,700 homes and businesses, according to Jersey Central Power & Light.

The outages were scattered through northern Ocean County, with small outages in Brick, Lakewood, Toms River and Jackson.

More than 1,500 homes and businesses were without power as of 1 a.m. in the South Toms River area, however, attributed to equipment damage from the storm. That outage was affecting homes in Holiday City at Berkeley, along Lakehurst Road and in the Oak Ridge section of Toms River.

Specifics on the equipment damage were not available.

JCP&L said crews were on the scene and investigating; initial estimates had said power would be restored by 2 a.m. but the company rescinded that estimate as power outages continued to spread throughout the state.
