Toms River Man Charged In 2007 Sex Assault On Teen: Prosecutor

Authorities say the man had sex with a then-16-year-old; reports say he was a teacher in the Toms River schools at the time.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River man is in custody, accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old child 12 years ago, authorities said Monday.

Shawn C. Lee, 47, was arrested Friday, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Toms River Police Chief Mitchell Little said in a joint announcement.

Lee had been a teacher at Toms River Intermediate East at the time of the assault, WOBM.com reported. He had taught social studiesand was with the school district until 2013, the Asbury Park Press reported.

Lee has been charged with sexual assault after a monthlong investigation, Billhimer said. Investigators allege Lee had sexual intercourse with the 16-year-old victim in September 2007.

He is being held in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
