Toms River Police Holding National Night Out Event
The township police department is participating in the national event for the first time.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Police Department is inviting residents to join them on Tuesday, Aug. 6, as the police department takes part in National Night Out for the first time.
National Night Out is an annual event that began in 1984 and aims to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make "neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live," the National Night Out website says.
Towns across the country participate, and in Toms River, the event will be held at Shelter Cove park from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The event is free and includes music, face-painting, and bounce houses for the kids. There will be volleyball, police, fire and emergency displays, and food.
"Let's get together as a community and enjoy the night," the police department said on its Facebook event page.

Shelter Cove Park is at 1390 Bay Ave., the far eastern end of Bay Avenue, past Fischer Boulevard.
