Toms River Student Develops Beekeeping YouTube Channel

Katie Culbert of High School North won first prize in a regional science fair, and is now taking her passion for beekeeping online.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Katie Culbert is the bee’s knees.

Last year, as a freshman at High School North, Culbert won first place among all ninth graders at the Delaware Valley Science Fair for her project on breakthroughs in honey bee health. She was then able to compete in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, the world’s largest science competition for high school students, according to a report from Toms River schools.

Culbert also started a YouTube channel called Katie’s Adventures in Beekeeping. Over the course of four videos, Culbert dons a full beekeeping suit and narrates her experiences caring for a busy hive. She shows how she winterizes her hive, inspects it for mite damage, tracks the progress of bee eggs, and more.
