WATCH: Christie May Be Forced To Reveal His Security Costs - All Thanks To A Cub Scout

A moment of candor with a Cub Scout [see video below] could force the governor to provide records of the $1 million his protectors charged.

Gov. Chris Christie may have to reveal records of his security expenses after all.

One moment of candor with a Cub Scout that was caught on video could force him to provide records of the $1 million his state police protectors charged to his office’s American Express credit cards, according to the New Jersey Watchdog website.

A state Superior Court judge said as much after seeing the YouTube video posted by the governor’s office from a town hall meeting during which Christie revealed security secrets - particularly the number of state troopers assigned to the Executive Protection Unit, according to New Jersey Watchdog.

Judge Mary C. Jacobson, speaking on Thursday during a hearing in Mercer County Superior Court, said she was “not convinced it is essential to the governor’s security to withhold details” and said the video “completely undermines” Christie’s reasons for refusing to turn over the documents to New Jersey Watchdog, according to the website.

The judge also criticized his attitude about security as “cavalier,” according to New Jersey Watchdog.

The report comes from a website that is part of a national chain called Watchdog.org, which targets government spending, waste and corruption. The New Jersey site is operated by prominent investigative journalist Mark Lagerkvist, a former special projects reporter at The Asbury Park Press who also worked at CNBC.

New Jersey Watchdog is suing Christie in Mercer County Superior Court to compel the governor to release the Amex records of his charges. Patch republishes New Jersey Watchdog’s information with permission.

The governor’s spending practices and gift-taking practices have come under fire before. In 2012, Sheldon G. Adelson, the billionaire casino owner and supporter of Israel, lent Christie his private plane so the governor could go on a trade mission to Israel, according to The New York Times.

But they’ve come under increasing scrutiny since Christie has taken steps to launch a possible presidential campaign, and has traveled extensively to some of the early 2016 primary and caucus states such as Iowa and New Hampshire. At the same time, he’s been criticized for spending too much time outside of New Jersey

The Cub Scout who provided the question which yielded the revealing answer was Charlie Tartaglia, 7 years old, who was dressed in his navy blue uniform at the Hasbrouck Heights event, according to northjersey.com.

“How many bodyguards do you have,” Tartaglia asked, to laughter.

Christie said he had six at the event but ”there [are] 30 men and women who work for me, are members of the State Police and they’re members of what’s called the Executive Protection Unit.”

“And they take care of protecting me, they protect the lieutenant governor and they’re with me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - not all 30 of them. Usually, I have 3 with me when I travel.”
