Bands Battle; Glass Cow Wins
Annual township event packs lawn in front of municipal complex for teen bands.
Glass Cow, a local band comprised of Warren students Ben Overzat, Henry Wolfson, Max Picut and Ed Weisgerber, claimed the top prize in the township's annual Battle of the Bands, Thursday.
With an audience filling the lawn in front of the municipal complex, three bands competed, including The Ryan Tunney Band and Short Circuit. The show opened with last year's winning band, Jackie Treehorn, and The Little Devils. Members of the two bands judged the competitors, awarded second-place to the Ryan Tunney Band, of New Providence, and third to Short Circuit, with members residents Ashay Grover and Matthew Renzo, both of Green Brook, and Zubin and Zane Patel, of Totowa.
This marks the second year the members of Glass Cow have performed at the battle—last year, performing under the name The Frets—the band claimed second place.

"I felt really good about it," drummer Henry Wolfson said. "I was just excited we got to play."
Top prize included a gift certificate to Sam Ash Music Stores, and a $200 cash prize donated by the Grill Stone Resturant in Scotch Plains and Warren's Muscle Maker Grill. Henry said the band had its eyes on a guitar effect pedal to simulate an acoustic guitar for the gift certificate.

Organizer Joe Cerisano said the crowd seemed a bit bigger than last year's, and noted how helpful the opening bands' members were when it came to the judging.
"But they were all really good," he said of the contestants.
