Freeholders Honor Somerset Medical Center, Senior Center

Warrenbrook Senior Center staff members among those recognized.

The Somerset County freeholders on Tuesday honored Somerset Medical Center for being named a Magnet hospital for excellence in nursing services by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

"As a former practical nurse, I am very proud of Somerset Medical Center,'' Freeholder Patricia Walsh said.

"The nurses are more than valuable,'' Walsh said. "They are the hospital.''

Maureen Schneider, senior vice president of clinical development and chief nursing officer for Somerset Medical Center, thanked the freeholders and the community for the support they have given the hospital.

"I hope you never have to use Somerset Medical Center,'' Schneider said, "but we are there for you.''

Schneider said that hospital staffers compiled nine volumes of documentation that was reviewed in the evaluation process. The Magnet  recognition is achieved by only 6 percent of hospitals nationwide.

"We are up there with everyone else,'' Schneider told the freeholders.
