Green Brook Track Star Lands Job At Garmin
The nationally recognized Green Brook track star turned her running passion into a full-time career with Garmin.
GREEN BROOK, NJ — A nationally-recognized Green Brook track star has turned her running passion into a full-time career with Garmin. Amy Regan is a lifelong Jersey girl. She moved from Scotch Plains to Green Brook when she was 4 years old and eventually became a graduate of Watchung-Hills Regional High School.
But running wasn’t always a passion for her. She mainly played soccer and lacrosse in high school and eventually took up winter track to keep in shape in the off season.
It wasn’t until her freshman year at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken did her running passion ignite.

“I joined the team and started running and it wasn’t really what I expected,” Regan said. “I didn’t expect any awards but I had fast times and ran fast races.”
Fast is an understatement as Regan captured the second NCAA cross country national championship of her career in November 2016, crossing the finish line in 20:16.4 to place her nearly 15 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

She was also named National Women's Athlete of the Year earlier this academic year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Throughout her tenure at Stevens it was important to keep up both her athletics and her academics. She has a 3.8 grade point average.
She was offered chances to run at scholarship schools like Penn State to compete at a Division III school but she turned them down to major in engineering and participate in Stevens' co-op program.
Regan's co-op was at Garmin over the summer where she worked as project manager.
“I am familiar with garmin because when I started running at Stevens Garmin was my first GPS watch,” Regan said. “I ran the Philadelphia Marathon with it and loved the watch so much that I looked for a co-op opportunity with them and applied for it.
Her co-op went so well that the company is sponsoring her senior design project that incorporates Data Analytics and the Fitness/Wearables industry.
Regan will be moving to Kansas City this summer after she graduates from Stevens to begin her full-time career.
“It’s a very young and active community.,” Regan said of Garmin. “Everyone there is focused on biking and running. It really aligns with my lifestyle.”
At Garmin she will be working with the Engineering Business Development team as a Partnership Program Manager aimed to improve the efficiency of making the decision on the placement of ads for Garmin.
Regan laughs thinking about how a running passion and her love for a Garmin watch has turned into a career path.
“I really had no idea,” Regan said. “I fell in love with the product but now I am making career out of it. I thank running and my coach to get to this level. I am passionate about the sport and hope to always have this passion for running that will drive my career.”
