Local Yoga Studio offers Zen During the Holiday Rush

Ray of Light Yoga doubles in size, offers more classes for all ages.

Hillsborough, NJ -- Things can get crazy around the holidays and Carrie Schick of Ray of Light Yoga in Hillsborough wants to help offer ways to de-stress.

Schick of Montgomery is married to Michael and has three children. She opened her studio last year in Hillsborough and recently moved to a larger space a few months ago to offer more classes along with yoga.

She started practicing yoga eight years ago when her twins Zach and Jake were going through their “terrible two” phase. Yoga saved her own sanity and she has been hooked every since.

“It’s one of those things, once you start you never stop,” Schick said.

In 2010, she decided to train to become a teacher. After getting certified, she began working at a studio before taking the plunge to open her own space.

“I wanted to put my own stamp on the business,” Schick said. “I wanted to share my vision for yoga.”

She opened up Ray of Light Yoga in November 2014.

Not even a year later, she was moving on up. Literally. Schick moved from a 700-square-foot space in September to the upstairs studio where the space doubled in size to 1,500 square-feet.

The extra space allows Schick to offer more classes for all levels and ages and do more community work.

Recently she held a yoga for kids class where proceeds went to a local family with a child with cancer. Children who attended the event had a blast, so Schick plans to incorporate birthday parties and more children’s classes for ages four to 11.

She also plans to add tween and teen classes in 2016.

Along with yoga, Schick offers Barre, Flow, Barefoot Bootcamp and Hatha classes for all levels. She also has chair yoga for seniors.

“I want everyone to feel comfortable,” Schick said. “No one is intimidated here, there is no pressure. It’s not a competition.”

Naming her studio after a Madonna song “Ray of Light,” Schick believes in bringing out everyone’s inner light.

“ We encourage everyone who steps through our door to be fearless and courageous in creating their own ‘movement’ of whatever makes them come alive and truly shine from the inside out,” Schick wrote on her website.

Ray of Light Yoga is located at 170 Township Line Road, Building A, 2nd Floor, Hillsborough.
