WAYNE, NJ — Three 1st Ward residents filed a petition Wednesday to recall Councilman Richard Jasterzbski from office.

Alan Purcell, Anthony Ciambrone and Robert Ceberio said in a statement with the petition that Jasterzbski is "unsuitable to hold public office," NorthJersey.com reported, after police released a video of him yelling expletives and obscenities at Susan Enderly-Peracchio at the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization's headquarters on Hamburg Turnpike the Sunday before the primary election. Enderly-Peracchio's daughter recorded the incident and filed a harassment complaint with the Wayne Police Department.

A copy of the petition could not immediately be obtained from the Township Clerk's office.

Purcell was the 1st Ward councilman before he resigned in 2013 and Jasterzbski was appointed to replace him. Jasterzbski was elected to a full three-year term in 2015. His term expires in December 2019. Ceberio is a former Board of Education trustee.

Jasterzbski previously said that he has no intention of resigning his seat, something residents and state representatives want him to do.

In order for the recall petition to succeed, 25 percent of registered voters, or about 1,300 people, would need to sign the petition. There were more than 5,200 registered voters in Ward 1 for the June primary.

Township Clerk Paul Margiotta has three business days to approve the petition.
