$660K Memorial Park Playground Replacement Nears Completion
Westfield Recreation Department provided an update on Monday after receiving a few inquiries about when the new playground will be open.

WESTFIELD, NJ — "Memorial Playground is almost ready!" announced Westfield Recreation Department on Monday.

As of Dec. 30, the Recreation Department announced they still have a few final safety measures to put in place.

"We look forward to updating everyone with an opening date in the coming weeks. We think you'll agree that it will be worth the wait — thanks for your patience!" said the department.
The Town Council passed a resolution at its May 14 meeting to authorize an award of contract to MRC Recreation, representing Game Time Inc, for the purchase and installation of playground equipment for Memorial Park through the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey (ESCNJ), at a fee not to exceed $660,136.96.

A special ordinance for $474,000 and various grant programs also awarded to Westfield for $185,000 will cover the cost of the purchase — including a $100,000 grant awarded as part of the Union County Board of County Commissioners' 2024 Union County Infrastructure and Municipal Aid grant program.
The playground is located at 713 Cumberland St. in Westfield.
