DWI Driver Causes Head-On Crash, Injures 2 In Union County: Police
The crash happened on Wednesday night in Berkeley Heights.
BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ — A driver was charged with driving while intoxicated and assault after police say he caused a head-on crash and injured two people on Wednesday night in Berkeley Heights.
Leonardo Pupo, 34, was charged with DWI, one count of assault by auto, and several motor vehicle-related offenses, according to Chief William Ives.
The crash happened on Wednesday at around 7:36 p.m. on Mountain Avenue near Oak Ridge Road.

Pupo caused the accident by colliding head-on with another vehicle, said Ives.
Two people in the other vehicle sustained injuries and were treated by the Berkeley Heights Rescue Squad.

Pupo appeared to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested, said Ives.
He was later released pending mandatory court appearances in Berkeley Heights Municipal Court and Union County Superior Court.
