'Unspecified Threat' Causes Evacuation At Westfield School

This is the second threat-related incident at Edison Intermediate School in a week. Last Wednesday the school went into a brief lockdown.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A "third party unspecified threat" caused Edison Intermediate School to be evacuated on Wednesday.

The Westfield Police Department reported receiving the threat and notifying the school district.

The Board of Education evacuated the school around 10:50 a.m. as a precaution. A search was conducted in the school that resulted in no threat present, according to police.

Students went back into the school around 12:10 p.m. with normal school activities resuming.

A Nixle alert sent out by police initially labeled the event as an "evacuation drill" however, a letter to parents from the district noted the threat.
