Package Theft, DWI And Warrant Arrests Reported In Westfield
Westfield Police released its latest blotter for the past week.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Arrests for driving while intoxicated and outstanding warrants along with a package theft were among the items reported recently in Westfield.
Westfield Police Blotter – Dec. 8 to Dec. 14:
On Dec. 8 at 1:25 p.m.: A person who wanted to remain anonymous came into Westfield Police Headquarters to turn in a teal-colored case that contained wireless air pods. The case was found on Cumberland Street in Westfield. The owner of the case and wireless air pods is unknown.

On Dec. 11 at 7:41 p.m.: Officer Scanlon arrested John Chupko,71, of Scotch Plains, for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle crash investigation in the 600 block of Rahway Ave. Chupko was issued motor vehicle summonses with a mandatory Westfield Municipal Court appearance date of Jan. 7, 2025 and released on his own recognizance to a responsible adult.
On Dec. 12 at 9:18 a.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Oak Street reported a theft of property. The resident states a delivered package was stolen from their front porch. The resident reports they currently suffered a monetary loss of around $40.

On Dec. 12 at 9:45 p.m.: Officer Bace arrested Naim S. Shaw, 30, of Linden, for an outstanding traffic warrant for $1,000, issued by the Linden Municipal Court, during the course of a motor vehicle stop on East North Avenue. Shaw was released on his own recognizance at the scene.
On Dec. 13 at 12:06 a.m.: Rem Vanderbeek, 36, of Westfield, was placed under arrest on the strength of two active ATS warrants pursuant to a motor vehicle stop. Vanderbeek had an active ATS warrant from Scotch Plains Municipal for $750 and an active ATS warrant from Westfield Municipal Court for $500. Vanderbeek was processed and released curbside with new municipal court dates for each warrant.
On Dec. 13 at 6:39 a.m.: Shaandj A. Ferguson, 49, Bellport, NY, was arrested in the 800 block of Lenape Trail for receiving stolen property. Ferguson was in possession of a stolen motor vehicle at the time. Ferguson was placed under arrest and taken to Westfield Police Headquarters, where he was processed and released with a mandatory Union County Superior Court date.
On Dec. 13 at 1:20 p.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Prospect Street reported that they were the victim of fraudulent charges to a credit card account. The resident states that someone made fraudulent charges without their approval or authorization. The resident reports there were two separate sets of incidents of fraudulent charges. The resident stated two fraudulent charges occurred and they took the appropriate reported actions. The resident has suffered no financial loss.
On Dec. 13 at 10:13 p.m.: Juan Casasdiaz, 25, Plainfield, was driving westbound on West North Avenue, near Whittier Avenue, when a plate inquiry revealed Casasdiaz to have an outstanding Springfield Municipal Contempt of Court warrant for $1,000. Casasdiaz was arrested on the strength of the warrant and was transported to Westfield Police Headquarters where he was processed and later released with an upcoming court date.
On Dec. 13 at 10:17 p.m.: Tukawn Gladstone, 24, Irvington, was stopped for driving with an expired motor vehicle registration on Prospect Street and W. Broad Street. Gladstone was subsequently found to have an outstanding contempt of court warrant from Union Township for $750; and an outstanding contempt of court warrant from Weehawken Township for $500. Gladstone was arrested on the strength of the aforementioned warrants and taken to Westfield Police Headquarters for processing, where he was later released with upcoming court dates.
On Dec. 14 at 9:25 p.m.: Cristian Chicaizaacosta, 31, Plainfield, was arrested for hindering apprehension after providing false pedigree information to Westfield Police Department officers during the course of a motor vehicle stop on W. North Avenue and Clark Street. Chicaizaacosta was later turned over to South Plainfield Police Department personnel on the strength of multiple outstanding NCIC warrants.
