• Cranford Artist Takes Best of Show as 13 Union County Seniors Earn Statewide Art Awards (rlsmedia.com) — Westfield artist Gesine Ehlers earned first place in the professional mixed media category at the New Jersey Senior Citizen Art Show, putting a local spotlight on this statewide showcase. She's one of 13 Union County seniors recognized, and residents can view all the winning works in person at Meadow Lakes Senior Living in East Windsor through November 4.

• Stephen, Glover power Woodbridge football past Westfield (nj.com subscription) — Westfield High's football team fell 13-7 on the road at Woodbridge, despite a late fourth-quarter touchdown run by Matt Seward and steady passing from quarterback Max Hymans. The Blue Devils spread the ball among several receivers and topped 100 rushing yards, but two early Woodbridge rushing scores proved to be the difference.
