Westfield Police Reports: Facebook Marketplace Concerns, And More

The Westfield police have released details of their early August reports, on crimes ranging from car burglaries to identity theft.

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Police Department released details of incidents from the week of Aug. 10 through this past Saturday, Aug. 14:

On Aug. 10 at 9:38 a.m., an Irving Avenue resident told police that sometime after 5 p.m. the previous night, someone entered their unlocked vehicle in the driveway and took $40 in cash. Nothing else was taken.

Also that day, an Everts Avenue resident told police someone had taken their New Jersey dealer license plate.

On Aug. 12, a resident of West South Avenue said someone caused approximately $1,500 of damage to their Jeep's rear trunk door and bumper area. Police surmised that someone tried unsuccessfully to swipe the wheel and tire mounted on the door.

On Aug. 12, someone reported to police that she was trying to sell an item on Facebook Marketplace. A buyer responded to her residence and began asking if other items were for sale. "The buyer was on Facetime the entire time and the resident believes they may have been using Facetime to case out her property," police noted.

Also on that date, person said that around 10:28 p.m., while walking on the 300 Block of Clark Street, he was sprayed with something from a truck. The person described the truck as being yellow with the word "pesticide" written on it.

On Aug. 13, someone found, at the South Side Train Lot, a clear plastic bin containing miscellaneous items used for vehicle detailing. The bin and its contents were placed in a secure location for keeping by police.

On Aug. 14, a resident told police that someone tried to take out a $2,500 in his name. However, Digital Credit Union notified the victim, and the loan was denied.
