Police Arrest Essex County Man For Park Slashing

Montclair police have arrested an Essex County man in connection with an alleged slashing at Nishuane Park.

Police originally reported that on July 23, officers responded to a report of a screaming female at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and High Street around 10:45 p.m.

On arrival, police found a 41-year-old Newark woman with lacerations on her back and neck.

She was subsequently transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

After releasing an artist rendering of the suspect in August, Montclair police detectives arrested Anthony Johnson, 37, of Belleville, on Sept. 18.

Police charged Johnson with aggravated assault and weapons offenses. His bail was set at $300,000.

“Thank you to the Newark Police Department 2nd Precinct - North District, for their assistance in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion,” the Montclair Police Department stated in a release.
