Car Crashes into Westwood Deli

No serious injuries were reported, though one driver was taken to the hospital

A four-door silver Mazda crashed into Tuesday afternoon causing damage to the building and the vehicle, but no serious injuries.

According to Capt. Frank Durante, a vehicle traveling east on Park Avenue attempted to go straight across Third Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Mazda was traveling north on Third Avenue when the other vehicle, which had a stop sign, entered the roadway and struck the Mazda in the left rear, Durante said. He said the impact caused the Mazda to spin and hit a parked car before crashing into the deli.

Police and EMS personnel were at the scene at the intersection of Park and Third avenues shortly after the crash. The female driver of the Mazda was taken to Valley Hospital in a Hillsdale Ambulance. She appeared to be alert and was moving her arms. Durante said she was taken to the hospital "to be checked out" and wasn't seriously injured.

No one else was injured in the crash, which Durante said was "amazing" since the point of impact at Flynn's Deli was very close to the cash registers.

According to Police Chief Frank Regino, the Health Department cleared Flynn's Deli to open for business. Personnel had to remove food items that were in the front window and a company boarded up the front where the impact occurred, he said.
