A school bus and car collided near the intersection of Washington and Mountain avenues in Westwood Thursday afternoon, sending the car through a fence and almost into a Washington Avenue home.

When he went outside, he saw a black Toyota Camry had "demolished" a six-foot fence he had next to his home.

Svec said he was told the bus was turning from Washington Avenue onto Mountain Avenue when it hit the car.

"The fire department had to use the jaws of life to get people out of the car," Svec said.

According to Westwood police, two individuals were taken by ambulance to Valley Hospital. No other information was immediately available from the department.

Svec said he felt lucky that the car missed his deck and spared his house for the most part.

"That can be fixed," he said about the fence, adding he was grateful no one else was hurt.

Svec said that there used to be a guardrail along Washington Avenue near where the crash occurred, but the county took it down six months ago.

Washington Avenue was closed to traffic between Hillside and Mountain avenues while police conducted a crash investigation.
