Man Charged With Buying Illegal Weapons in Westwood

Thomas Hamparian allegedly purchased illegal weapons from an undercover detective

An Emerson man is accused of purchasing illegal weapons from an undercover detective in Westwood, authorities said Tuesday. 

Thomas Hamparian, 18, allegedly agreed Friday to buy a long rifle and a semiautomatic handgun during a meeting with an undercover detective from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Investigations Squad, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. 

He then allegedly met with the undercover detective in Westwood Monday to view several weapons and offered to buy two -- an Intra Tech 9mm Luger Tec-9 machine gun and a Beretta 9mm handgun, authorities said. According to the Prosecutor's Office, Hamparian paid $600 for the weapons and was subsequently arrested.

A search warrant was issued for Hamparian's home, where detectives retrieved ammunition, firearm related material and two computers, authorities said. 

Hamparian was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon. According to the Prosecutor's Office, Hamparian was taken to the Bergen County Jail Annex in lieu of $100,000 bail with a 10 percent cash option.
