Recycling, Shredding Events Available Saturday

Washington Township has an event for its residents and there is a county-wide one in Mahwah

Washington Township residents can bring their sensitive documents and e-waste to the Saturday for proper disposal and all Bergen County residents can head to Mahwah to do the same.

The township's is scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon where residents can bring paper and electronics such as TVs, computers, printers, scanners, monitors, radios, VCRs and DVD players.

The township had similar events in March and September, which Mayor Janet Sobkowicz said were successful. She announced at a recent council meeting that three tons of paper were shredded in March.

If you don't live in Washington Township, you can take your paper and electronics to Mahwah Saturday.

Rain or shine, a county-wide paper shredding, electronics and tire recycling event will take place Saturday at as the Bergen County Utilities Authority will attempt to make Bergen a bit more environmentally conscious.

Campgaw will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accept used electronics and tires and shred old documents. The documents could include old tax forms, banking statements or bills. Keep in mind that newspapers, magazines and books will not be accepted.

Shredding will be limited to four bags per resident and each bag cannot exceed 10 pounds.

E-waste, which of this year cannot be disposed of in the regular trash and recycling collections, includes old computers, cell phones, printers and other electronics.

Up to four tires, with or without rims, will be accepted.

This event will only collect personal items; no corporate or business waste will be accepted.

Proof of Bergen County residency is required.
