Township Police Recover Vehicle Stolen from Westwood in Church Parking Lot

The vehicle had been reported stolen Jan. 30

The recovered a vehicle Monday that had been stolen from Westwood in January, the department reported.

According to township police, at about 8:13 a.m. Monday, Police Officer Steven Riedel saw a vehicle parked in the parking lot that he recognized from a stolen vehicle alert the had sent out Jan. 30.

Detective Sgt. Rod Fortunat of the Westwood Police Department said a resident on the west side of the borough reported a 2005 gray Nissan Altima stolen Jan. 30. The resident had said the vehicle was taken from outside the home overnight.

Washington Township Detective Sgt. John Calamari went to the church parking lot Monday to run a computer check on the vehicle. Sgt. David Mino, who was working the desk, confirmed the vehicle was stolen and contacted Westwood police.

Detective Warren Morrell of the Westwood Police Department went to Our Lady of Good Counsel and confirmed the vehicle was stolen from Westwood, according to township police.

The vehicle was taken to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at the Bergen County Sheriff's Department for processing. Fortunat said, "They'll go over it and see if they come up with anything."

The investigation into the incident is ongoing through the Westwood Police Department.
