Vehicle Strikes Pole Along Old Hook Road

The one-car crash sent the driver to the hospital

A four-door sedan struck a utility pole in Westwood along Old Hook Road between Valley Avenue and Kinderkamack Road Tuesday shortly before 6 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.

, the Hillsdale Ambulance Corps, Bergen County Regional Emergency Medical Service (REMS) and paramedics from Hackensack University Medical Center were on the scene Tuesday after the crash. The male driver was taken to HUMC by Bergen County REMS, according to Westwood Police Capt. Frank Durante.

"We're trying to figure out why he lost control and went off of the road and struck the pole right now," Durante said at the scene.

The utility pole was snapped in half, but Durante said that the power supply was unaffected immediately after the crash.

Emergency personnel secured the pole to allow PSE&G workers to assess the situation.
