Washington Grand Residents Moved After Report of Smoke

According to police, a self cleaning oven caused the smoke

Some residents of Washington Grand were evacuated Monday afternoon following a report of smoke at the location.

Sgt. William Curl of the said several calls came into headquarters Monday afternoon about smoke filling the building of the adult community. He said it appeared after an initial investigation that someone set the oven in an apartment on the first floor of building 100 for cleaning and left the doors open.

Curl said the building, which spans 100 and 80 Ridgewood Road, was filled with smoke from that oven and members of the were dispatched to the location.

Firefighters at the scene were still investigating the area where smoke was reported, but said there didn't appear to be a fire.

According to police on the scene, residents of the back apartments were moved to an adjoining area as a precaution. Ambulances were present to help the residents who needed assistance.
