Westwood Employees Get 2 Percent Pay Increase for 2011

Council members approved the salary ordinance 4-2

Members of the Westwood council approved the 2011 salary ordinance Tuesday night in a 4-2 vote, which gives borough employees a 2 percent pay increase.

Councilman John J. Sciara and Council President Robert Miller were the dissenting votes. Sciara questioned why the maximum hourly rates for the electrical and plumbing positions weren't consistent. In the ordinance, the electrical position pays between $18 and $42.50 per hour while the plumbing position pays between $18 and $52.50 per hour.

Councilwoman Cynthia Waneck said she thought the rates were based on the people currently serving in the positions.

Borough Administrator Robert Hoffmann said he would look into the situation and report back to Sciara with an answer.

The salary ordinance offers a range for each position's salary, which Borough Clerk Karen Hughes said is customary.

The measure, which was introduced at the May 17 council meeting, sets pay guidelines for the year for employees who do not have collective bargaining agreements.
