PERTH AMBOY, NJ - A 70-year-old man was struck and killed by a car in Perth Amboy on the morning of Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. It's the second time this month, and third time this year, a pedestrian has been either killed or seriously injured after getting hit by a car in Perth Amboy.

In the Christmas Eve incident, the man was killed after he apparently crossed against a red light and was hit by a car on Rt. 35, Middlesex County prosecutors said. William H. George, a Perth Amboy resident, was pronounced dead at 3:20 a.m. Dec. 24.

A preliminary investigation by police has determined that George was crossing Rt. 35 at Dorothy Street, against the red light, shortly before 2:59 a.m. He was struck by a 1998 Mazda 626, which was in the right, northbound lane of Rt. 35. The Mazda was driven by a 30-year-old Woodbridge woman who stayed at the scene. She did not appear to be impaired and voluntarily provided a blood sample, police said. No charges have been filed.
