Middlesex County Woman, Man Injured In Las Vegas Shooting
A woman from Jamesburg was shot in the hip and a man who grew up in Edison was hit by shrapnel as he shielded his girlfriend.

JAMESBURG, NJ — Two people from Middlesex County, N.J. — a man who grew up in Edison Township and a woman who currently lives in Jamesburg — have been identified as among the more than 520 people wounded in the Las Vegas shooting Sunday.
Jenna DeCandio lives in Jamesburg, and she was at the concert Sunday night with her parents. Jenna was shot in the hip/pelvic area, and she underwent surgery Monday at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, the hospital closest to the Las Vegas strip that has treated many of the wounded. According to many family and friends wishing her well on Facebook, the surgery went well and Jenna is expected to make a full recovery. That's a photo of DeCandio above, with her parents, at her graduation from North Carolina State this past May.
“The nurse said the bullet missed her stomach, bowels, intestine, vital organs and arteries and for that we are truly thankful,” Jill Pasternak DeCandio wrote on Facebook.

Jenna's parents were not injured in the shooting. There were reportedly about 22,000 people in the crowd at the Jason Aldean concert. She works as a knit programmer at Shima Seiki USA, Inc. in Monroe Township. A wrestling coach from Shippensburg, Pennsylvania was killed during the shooting. He is the first known victim of the attack from Pennsylvania.

And Edison native Andrew Kampe was attending the concert with his girlfriend, Allison Crute, when the gunman opened fire. While the couple now lives near Norfolk, Kampe grew up in Edison before moving to Virginia for college.

As the Edison Patch reported, Kampe and his girlfriend were near the stage when shots began to ring out. Kampe reportedly laid on top of Crute to shield her. His arm was struck by shrapnel and he will not need surgery, according to WTKR. He may have saved his girlfriend's life: She was hit by bullets to her arm and will require two surgeries, her family said. While growing up in Edison, Kampe was active in Boy Scouts in the area and reached the rank of Eagle Scout.
His girlfriend works as a nurse and Kampe's profession is not known at this time. The couple was at the country music fest celebrating his birthday.
