Victim ID'd In Fatal Crash That Closed Garden State Parkway

Massive traffic tied up both sides of the highway. Details revealed in the accident.

One person was killed in a crash Tuesday that partially closed the Garden State Parkway.

David Sayers, 53, of Roxbury Township was killed in the accident that shut down two lanes on the Garden State Parkway northbound side north of the Driscoll Bridge.

The crash caused massive traffic on both sides of the highway, police said.

Sayers was initially hospitalized with serious injuries in the accident that took place in Sayreville, according to the State Police.

The Driscoll Bridge spans over the Raritan River, near the interchange with Routes 1 and 9 and I-287.

The accident happened at 12:20 p.m. at milepost 127 when a Ford Econoline van struck the center divider, police said. The two left lanes down were shut down, and they remained closed for hours.

The victim was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center, where he died, police said.
