2nd Women's March To Be Held In Bergen County

Marchers intend to fight to ensure rights for all remain, and are not eroded.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — They marched a year ago for equality, unity and justice.

On Jan. 20, they'll march again.

The Leonia Action Alliance is sponsoring a second Women's March.

"After a year of attacks nationwide on immigration, racial equality, healthcare, the environment and women’s rights, the residents of this small New Jersey town believe more than ever in the need for another event," said Lisa Cullen, an alliance spokesperson.

The theme of this year's march is Justice for All.

The alliance has had a busy first year. It held a climate march with more than 400 participants and pushed Leonia to adopt a Welcoming City resolution for undocumented immigrants and ran a borough-wide anti-styrofoam campaign.

The march will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Leonia Middle School. The march will proceed down Broad Avenue to Wood Park behind the Leonia Public Library.

More than 600 similar marches were held across the country last year the day after President Donald Trump took the oath of office. Hundreds of thousands marched in Washington, D.C., Chicago, New York and San Francisco, as well as internationally.

There were at least eight marches in New Jersey, including the Asbury Park march and one in Trenton that also drew 6,000 people, according to organizers.
