Skip the supermarket and cancel the sitter, go ahead and prepare for a dining experience the whole family can enjoy (we’re not joking). We’ve put together a list of ten kid friendly restaurants we love—(and struggled because there are so many excellent eateries in our area that will welcome your little ones with open arms (yep, you read that right).
So grab the kiddos and head out for a dinner you’re sure to enjoy. Your kids will be entertained and you and your other half can enjoy a night out, good food, and even an adult beverage or two.
Field of Creams Cafe, Mahwah
The motto here is “if you serve it, they will come”. This local favorite started out as a small snack stand serving the players on the ball fields and nearby playgrounds. Just 6 years later and this well know grill is a MUST visit. (Don't let the name fool ya) While they have a list of over 16 ice cream flavors to choose from as well as milkshakes, and crepes, this place is know for their burgers! If you are looking for a low key dinner outdoors then grab the kids, hit the park, work up an appetite and head to Field of Creams and enjoy a burger, hot dog, cheese steak, fries... yummy. On the lighter side, they offer veggie burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches. Another favorite is 'bubble tea', invented in Taiwan, its made from small tapioca balls and comes in a variety of flavors, and can you say DELICIOUS! Keep your eyes out for weekly car hops and other great events.
550 Ramapo Valley Rd, Mahwah (located in Continental Soldiers Park)
Valley Stables Pub, Oakland NJ
This cozy pub is new to the area but already has its regulars. And given the whole pub thing, most of the food here is appealing to kids. But the little ones do get their own menu that even has some healthy side dish alternatives. They do have live band and charity nights so keep an eye on their website!
588 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland
Mt Fuji, Hasbrouck Heights, NJ
This popular hibachi restaurant puts on a good show for the little guys and has a fun, party-like atmosphere. Kids “love watching the hibachi tricks” and “mastering the kid-crafted chopsticks.” Don't forget Moms and Dads, if you feel like sushi, this is the place. Order one of their amazing rolls as an app! Mt Fugi also has a bar of Japanese beers, sakes, and wacky specialty drinks. An added plus is they have a Childrens Hibachi Menu which is less expensive and will keep your kids bellies happy!
193 Route 17 South, Hasbrouck Heights
Anthonys Coal Fired Pizza, Ramsey NJ
They weren't kidding when they said, “ a coal fired pizza, well done”. And what kid doesn't love pizza? Anthony's has the simple pie and many specialty pies to choose from. How does a philly cheese steak or broccoli rabe and sausage pie sound? Nobody said going out for pizza with the kids had to be plain!
984 State Rt 17, Ramsey
Blue Moon Mexican Café, Wyckoff
Blue Moon is fun for the entire family. With it’s cheery, colorful atmosphere and great food, it makes for an enjoyable evening for all. Their location in Wyckoff comes equipped with more indoor and outdoor dining, wide screen TV’s and a bar area, giving mom and dad a chance to enjoy one of their delicious margaritas. The kiddos can keep busy munching away on chips and salsa, or creating their own Moon Face, that might just make it to the Hall of Fame. With tons of yummy choices on the menu, kids can go Mexican with tacos or quesadillas, or stick with the traditional hot dog or pizza. Blue Moon hosts family friendly events throughout the year, as well as kid’s birthday parties.
