Christian Health Care Center Establishes New Department

Mental Health Central Access: One number for easy access to all mental-health resources

Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) is proud to announce the establishment of its new Mental Health Central Access Department. The department is designed to streamline intake and admissions processes for those seeking information and mental-health services for themselves or their loved ones.

“Whether it’s an adolescent navigating school bullying, families seeking guidance on changes at home, or group counseling for different diagnoses, Christian Health Care Center’s mental-health services have been instrumental in supporting thousands of community members,” said Steve Dumke, LNHA, FACHE, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at CHCC. “The more than 35,000 visits to Christian Health Care Counseling Center in the past year alone are indicative of our society’s need for mental-health resources.”

By directly contacting Mental Health Central Access, callers are connected with a Mental Health Central Access caseworker, who can review CHCC’s programs and treatment options, gather intake information, and make an initial appointment for or schedule admission to one of CHCC’s three mental-health programs:

“One in 5 people will be affected by mental illness in their lifetime,” said Rebecca Dauerman, APN, Vice President/Administrator of Mental Health Services and Chief Nursing Officer at CHCC. “Christian Health Care Center has always been a leader in mental-health services, and establishing Mental Health Central Access was a critical next step in continuing to innovate and focus on the needs of our residents, patients, clients, and consumers. We are thrilled to launch this during Mental Health Awareness Month in May, and look forward to continuing to provide support to people, families, and caregivers affected by mental illness in North Jersey.”

CHCC’s roots in mental health date back to its origins more than a century ago, when 14 deacons from the Reformed tradition vowed to change the delivery of care for people facing mental and emotional challenges. Their unwavering commitment led to the creation of New Jersey’s first private psychiatric hospital. Today, CHCC continues to prioritize mental health. The Center helped establish Wyckoff Stigma-Free, part of a county-wide campaign to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. Christian Health Care Counseling Center is recognized as a Center of Excellence for Developmentally Disabled Behavioral Health Services, and Ramapo Ridge Psychiatric Hospital received Disease-specific Care Certification for the Management of Dementia by The Joint Commission.
