Emerald Ash Borer Subject Of Seminar Friday

The invasive beetle is responsible for billions of dollars in damage. The insect feeds off the inner bark of ash trees.

WYCKOFF, N.J. — A seminar on the invasive emerald ash borer beetle will will be given in Wyckoff Friday.

The emerald ash borer is an invasive insect that feeds on the inner bark of ash trees. The beetle is native to east Asian countries like China, Japan and Korea and can have a devastating effect on ash trees.

The beetle was discovered in New Jersey in 2014.

The seminar will be held at the James A. McFaul Environmental Center at 150 Crescent Ave. from 1 to 3 p.m. Speakers will include Pam Zipse, outreach coordinator for Rutgers Urban Forestry, and Paul Kurtz, an entomologist with the New Jersey Department of Agriculture.
