Franklin Lakes Artist Wins Congressional Art Competition

Alexandra Gutierrez's artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol Building for a year.

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — Alexandra Gutierrez is the winner of the 2016 Congressional Art Competition for New Jersey's 5th Congressional District. 

The Congressional Institute, an educational non-profit that helps members of Congress better communicate with the public, sponsors the nationwide competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent. One winner from each congressional district is selected.

Students submit entries to their representative's office and local artists select the winning entries. The winning works are displayed at the at the United States Capitol Building for one year.

More than 90 students submitted works of art to 5th District Rep. Scott Garrett's office.
