Franklin Lakes Lawyer Continued To Practice Law After His License Was Suspended: Prosecutor
Jay I. Lazerowitz, 58, took money and violated escrow agreements while his license was suspended, authorities allege.
FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — A borough man is accused of continuing to practice law despite having his license suspended and misappropriating money that was supposed to remain in a trust account, Gurbir S. Grewal, Bergen County's acting prosecutor, said Thursday.
Jay I. Lazerowitz has his license to practice law suspended Jan. 27, but continued to do so, Grewal said in a news release.
Lazerowitz also continued to receive money in trust, despite authorities freezing his attorney trust account, and allegedly placed that money into checking accounts, Grewal said.

Lazerowitz also allegedly "misapplied" the money by moving and using it outside of the terms of the original escrow agreements, Grewal stated.
Lazerowtiz was charged via a summons Aug. 24, which was issued to him the next day at his Glen Rock office, the prosecutor said.

Lazerowitz was charged with unauthorized practice of law and misapplication of entrusted property, with a value greater than $75,000, Grewal said.
