Franklin Lakes Library Responds To 'Real Housewives' Star's Video
Jacqueline Laurita posted a video of she and her autistic son being asked to leave the Franklin Lakes library because he was tapping DVDs.

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — The library's Board of Trustees said it is "our joy to welcome any patron" there following a "Real Housewives Of New Jersey" star posting a video of she and her autistic son being asked to leave the library.
The Franklin Lakes Public Library Board of Trustees issued the statement after Jacqueline Laurita posted a video on social media Sunday of someone asking she and her autistic son to leave the library.
"No patron is ever asked to leave the library unless and until their actions are depriving other patrons of the ability to enjoy our services," the board's statement reads. "Our policy of inclusion is demonstrated daily. Our staff has years of expertise catering to patrons who are physically challenged, visual or hearing impaired, as well as well as special education students from our public school system, and developmentally delayed children and adults."

Nicholas Laurita was making "non-contextual vocals and tapping" sounds on DVD cases. Someone in the background can be heard saying "shh" and "quiet" after Nicholas taps the DVDs and makes a noise.
Laurita said the library is one of her son's "favorite spots."

"He had a meltdown as I struggled to get him to leave. Not one person offered or tried to help, or even opened the door for us. They just watched me struggle to get him out... as asked," Laurita posted along with the video.
Laurita posted a follow-up video saying that she was "not OK" with what happened and that she was "determined to make a difference."
