Memorial Fund For 3-Month-Old Nearing Goal

Reece Modzelewski died last month after he was taken off life support.

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — Nearly $2,500 has been donated to a memorial fund in memory of a 3-month-old North Jersey baby who died last month.

Recee Modzelwski died after a family member accidentally dropped him, NJ.com reported. He was "unconscious and unresponsive," Police Chief Robert Kugler said in the report, and was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center. He was placed on life support, but died shortly after noon Dec. 23 after his parents, Nicole Nicastro, 34, and Mark Modzelewski, 32, of Carteret, took him off life support.

Alissa Cabrera Farese started a Go Fund Me campaign to raise $2,500 to install a bench in Recee's memory in Chrome Park or Carteret Waterfront Park. They also would like to plant a tree.

"It is our hope that as the years pass and the seasons change, during which Reece's Tree will grow, bloom, and provide shade and shelter, while forever remaining a symbol of the gift of life — Reece's life," Farese said on the Go Fund Me page.
