NJ Co-Pilot Killed In Crash Wasn't Cleared To Fly: NTSB
Jeffrey Alino, of Union, lacked enough hours of flying experience to fly the Learjet 35A that crashed near Teterboro Airport last year.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The co-pilot who died in the one-plane crash at Teterboro Airport last year was not qualified to fly the charter aircraft, according to documents released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The NTSB released the documents Wednesday. They showed that Jeffrey Alino, 33, of Union did not have enough flying experience to fly the LearJet 35A and did not score well in his flight simulator training when Trans-Pacific Air Charter hired him in 2016.
Alino was flying the plane for most of the flight he and William Ramsey, 56, took from Philadelphia to Teterboro.

Alino and Ramsey stressed airspeed and knew something was wrong mere seconds before the crash occurred.
A transcript of the cockpit voice recorder shows Alino got nervous about landing the plane and handed control over to Ramsey less than a minute before the plane stalled and crashed in Carlstadt.

Alino: "I'm gonna give ya your controls okay?"
Ramsey: "Alright, my controls."
Alino: "Your flight controls."
Ramsey: "[Expletive] eh."
A few seconds later, and just a few seconds before the plane crashed, Alino said "lookin' good."
Alino was hired in September 2016 had 1,167 hours of flying time,
Alino was rated 0 on a 4-point scale that the company uses to determine if a co-pilot is permitted to fly an airplane and when, according to a NorthJersey.com report.
NTSB records showed that Alino spent 40 hours training in August of 2016.
According to the NorthJersey.com report, Alino struggled with landings and approaches during more than 24 hours of flight simulator training the following month.
Alino particularly struggled with landings and approaches and received a "not yet proficient — more training required," on all except the last session in the simulator, according to the report.
