The following Ramapo Fencing report was submitted by Coach Paul Apostol:
Ramapo fencers continued to gain strength as they approach one more dual meet versus West Milford before going on to the State Squad Championship. They jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first round and increased it to 13-5 by the end of the second round.
Ramapo kept in its first team in sabre for the start of the third round and squad captain, senior Josh Chang won the first bout to clinch the meet at 14-5. At this point, Ramapo subs entered the meet and managed to bring the score up to 17-10 by the end of the competition.

Ramapo epeeists once again did an outstanding job as they went 7-2 for the meet.
Squad captain, junior Scott Zellers fenced his best of the season going 2-0 and defeating both his opponents 5-1. Junior Sam Judd also went 2-0, defeating his opponents by 5-1 and 5-2.

Subs took over in the third round and added two victories, which interestingly were accomplished by the Lim brothers. Freshman, Jon Lim, who has improved significantly since the start of the season, nailed the first victory in a one-sided 5-1 bout. His brother, sophomore Edward Lim, not to be outdone by his younger brother, secured his victory in a very quick 5-0 bout.
The sabreists also went 7-2 but were not fencing their best.
Sophomore Alex Gorloff did an excellent job, dominating his opponents with two 5-1 and one 5-2 victories. Senior squad captain, Josh Chang, still nursing a foot injury and a jammed thumb, won two of his bouts but had to fight hard to eke out his 5-4 score in both bouts. Freshman Adam Carcione added one victory as did senior Taylor Valdez who dispatched his opponent with a 5-1 victory.
The foil squad was still struggling, and managed to achieve a 4-5 record.
Junior squad captain Tyler Clarke was fencing very well and made two victories. In one of his bouts, he not only out-fenced his opponent but also managed to frustrate him by scoring the last four touches using the exact same counter attack to attain his 5-0 victory. Senior Josh Chang — a converted sabre fencer — added one victory, as did sophomore Tanner Frank, who nailed his win with a 5-1 score.
Many parents made the long trek to W.Milford to cheer for our fencers. The team is very grateful for the loyal support.
Ramapo’s final dual meet of the season is an add-on against Fair Lawn this Friday, Feb. 17, at home.
We will use all of next week to prepare for the State Squad Championship on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Our sabre squad is the defending champion.
