Sports Recap: Locals Fare Well in Weekend Action
Indian Hills girls tennis romps, Ramapo girls V-Ball reaches County quarters

Here is the recap of the weekend games for the local high schools.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Ramapo made quick time of Midland Park in the Round of 16 of the Bergen County tournament on Saturday. Cara Saluppo had 9 kills, Michelle Barna posted 7 assists and Sammy Szura had 12 digs in the easy 25-11, 25-11 win to advance to the quarterfinals. The Green Raiders meet Mahwah on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Old Tappan.

On Friday, Courtney Dolan had 8 kills and 17 digs, and Michelle Barna posted 16 assists in the Green Raiders’ 25-15, 15-25, 25-21 win over Paramus.
Meanwhile, Indian Hills suffered a tough 25-12, 22-25, 25-23 loss to Bergenfield on Friday. Taylor Grbelja had 19 kills and Jewell Smolenski had 26 assists and 11 digs in the marathon contest.

FOOTBALL
The locals split on Friday night, with Ramapo shutting down Passaic Valley, 14-0, and Indian hills dropping a 35-14 loss to Pascack Valley.
Ryan Dougherty and Matt Alpert scampered in for TD runs of 5 and 1 yard, respectively for Ramapo, with Tim Sternfield booting in the extra points.
For Indian Hills, quarterback Danny Thompson connected with Valon Kortoci (9 yards) and Sean Roshell (7 yards) while Matt francis made good on both extra points.
GIRLS TENNIS
Indian Hills continued its torrid streak, shutting out Bergenfield and allowing just five games scored in the contest on Friday.
Kristy Faren, Morgan McGuire and Sabrina Chase won their singles matches, while Sedona Levy and Erin Burchill and Paige Smith and Jessica Corcoran won on the doubles side.
Ramapo topped Paramus 4-1/2-1/2. Katie Nerlino and Ariella Omar won at 1st and 2nd singles, respectively, and Michelle Gitlen tied her opponent with a set apiece.
Alison Nolte and Abbey Roberts, and Rachel Swensen and Syd Shilan posted convincing doubles wins.
CROSS COUNTRY
GIRLS BERGEN COUNTY GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ramapo’s Deanna DeLandro took first place in the Division B race with a time of 18:43, good enough to qualify for the Lou Molino Bergen Meet of Champions.
For Indian Hills, Jaime Pepper finished 4th (20:06), Krissie Gaffney finished 6th (20:30, Sydney Coughlin finished 20th (21:37), and Emily Wilkes finished 21st (21:37).
BOYS BERGEN COUNTY GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS
Local runners made a good showing in Division B action, with five finishing in the top 10.
